Report from the Front Lines: Twin Peak Roundup Begins

The Twin Peaks roundup in northeastern California is underway. We will provide updates from advocates observing this operation as they become available. August 29, 2010 BLM rounded up 54 horses on this Sunday, for a total of 963 horses captured to date. Of these, 54 mustangs have been returned to the range. Today BLM reports 2 deaths: At Litchfield Corrals this morning, two horses died. In the first incident, the veterinarian humanely euthanized an ailing 30-year-old mare with a tattoo from Arabian registry. The Bureau of Land Management will begin rounding up hundreds of wild horses from the mountainous deserts of western Utah on Tuesday, a move the federal agency says is necessary for the health of the land and the wildlife.
