The Johnnie Herd Management Area HMA

The area consists of a total of 212, 570 acres, with 177,662 acres managed by the BLM and 34,908 acres managed by the U.S. Forest Service. The area is characterized as Mojave desert su rrounded by low, rocky desert mountains. During the hot months of the year, burros occupy areas characterized by ravines which supply shade.

How to get there:

The Johnnie HMA is located in southern Nevada, approximately 60 miles northwest of Las Vegas in Clark and Nye counties.

About the burros:

There are an estimated 50 burros and 50 wild horses residing in this HMA.
