All of the horses below were born as federally-protected wild horses on public lands in the West. They were captured in Bureau of Land Management (BLM) roundups and adopted through the agency’s adoption program. All ended up in the slaughter pipeline before being rescued by the Mustang Freedom Foundation.

On November 26, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) began the largest roundup of the 2012 winter season -- the removal of 847 wild horses from the 3,000-square-mile Owyhee Complex in northern Nevada. Originally the agency planned to remove up to 1,600 horses but due to the lack of holding space that number has been reduced to 847.

Between November 3rd, 2012 and November 11th, 2012, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) conducted the first roundup for removal of horses ever in the Wassuk Herd Management Area (HMA).
